Foundational intelligence for growth across Africa
The Gravel Company provides the data-driven frameworks, business intelligence and strategic support African entrepreneurs need to build resilient, scalable businesses. With one simple goal, a truly connected Africa, to improve outputs and influence outcomes.

The problem is not the absence of trade. It is the absence of structure.
Africa is home to 18% of the world’s population, 30% of global mineral reserves, 65% of global arable land and a collective GDP smaller than Germany’s. That is not poverty, that is a structural failure. Intra-African trade sits at less than 20% of the continent’s total trade, not because African businesses lack ambition, but because the infrastructure and connectivity to move goods formally between African countries has never been deliberately built. We exist to build it.
Who we are
We are named for the layer beneath the road
The Gravel Company is a Pan-African business intelligence organisation built to equip African enterprises with the intelligence, infrastructure, and strategic counsel required to scale across the continent. We take our name from the foundational layer beneath every road. The compaction that absorbs load, creates connectivity, and makes the surface above durable, because we believe the most consequential work on the continent is not principally the visible, celebrated surface, but the unseen architecture that makes everything above it possible.
We construct the institutional infrastructure that makes markets function for African entrepreneurs. Our work spans regulatory intelligence and barrier resolution, market access and intra-continental distribution, embedded consumer channels, and high-calibre strategic advisory, four interlocking layers that together render intra-African commerce not merely possible, but scalable, formal, and consistently predictable.

By 2040, Africa’s working-age population (15–64) is projected to be the largest potential labor force in the world.
